Ever notice how it feels harder to lose weight in your 40s?

This morning, I looked at my body—this time with a little more love and a lot more curiosity.

Not to criticize it… but to understand it.

Because after 37, my body did what bodies do—it changed. And suddenly, the things that used to “work” didn’t work anymore. Fad diets? Made it worse. Restricting more? Didn’t help. Working harder? Still stuck.

And for a minute, I thought it was me.

Until I started paying attention.

When I tried Keto, my cholesterol said, “absolutely not.” Then I realized I was hypoglycemic. I asked for testing—insurance said no to GLP-1 meds. So I tried Metformin. It helped my blood sugar… but the weight? Still there, minding its business.

So I did what I always do…

I started researching.

And here’s what I’ve been learning:

1. Hormones shift… Estrogen isn’t just about cycles—it plays a role in how your body stores fat and regulates metabolism. As it changes, your body starts holding onto weight differently… especially around the midsection.

So no, it’s not just “eat less, move more.” It’s deeper than that.

2. Stress hits different… Life in your 30s and 40s? It’s not light. Work, kids, bills, healing, responsibilities… it adds up.

And your body responds by raising cortisol—your stress hormone—which keeps you in survival mode.

And survival mode? Doesn’t prioritize weight loss.

3. Cortisol raises blood sugar… When cortisol is elevated, your body releases extra glucose (sugar) for energy—like you’re about to fight for your life.

But you’re not… you’re just stressed.

And when that sugar isn’t used? It gets stored.

4. Then insulin steps in… Your body tries to balance things out by releasing insulin.

But when this happens over and over again, your cells stop responding the same way.

That’s called insulin resistance… and it makes losing weight a whole different game.

5. Fat storage becomes easier… Especially around the stomach.

And the frustrating part? You can be doing the same things you’ve always done… and your body still responds differently.

It’s not laziness. It’s not lack of discipline. It’s biology.

6. So it’s not always about doing more… Sometimes it’s about doing different.

Listening to your body. Adjusting your habits. Managing stress. Supporting your hormones instead of fighting them.

Because your body isn’t working against you…

it’s responding to what it’s going through.

And maybe…

the shift isn’t about forcing it to change—

but learning how to work with it instead
