Girl, What Are Your Hobbies? Because I Had to Think About Mine

A friend asked me last week, "What are your hobbies?"

And besides writing and cooking, I didn't have the slightest idea. But I do realize it's easy to get so caught up in everyday responsibilities that we forget to make time for the things we actually enjoy.

Between work and just trying to keep life together, women in their 40s can forget about their hobbies.

Personally, spirituality, writing, and wellness have become some of my biggest interests. But I also realize there's so much more to life to experience outside of our daily routines.

I recently came across an article in The Everygirl about Singer Doechii's advice on becoming more interesting. One of her viral tweets really caught my attention:

"It becomes easier to socialize when you actually have things to talk about and you gain things to talk about when you actually have hobbies and experience."

She went on to encourage people to try new things, develop their own tastes, and pursue what genuinely interests them. Her message was simple. Basically, go outside! 😂 And she does have a point!

Life is more than waking up and chasing "the mighty dollar."

Having hobbies and new experiences gives us something to look forward to. They can make conversations more interesting, lead us to new people, and even help us maintain a sense of individuality in our relationships. And from a wellness perspective, hobbies can do more than keep us entertained.

I read: engaging in activities can help reduce stress, improve our mood, provide a sense of purpose, and create healthier ways to spend our free time. And

let's not forget, they can also help keep us from falling into unhealthy habits. You know, like excessive drinking or entertaining people we probably should've left alone. 😩😂

I've also noticed that when we become less active or disconnected from things we once enjoyed, our motivation and mood goes downhill.

Life isn't always about healing from something.

Do you actually know what makes you happy?

My New Hobby Journey: Finding More Things I Enjoy

So, I've decided to go on a little hobby journey of my own because apparently, I need some new interests. I'm thinking about trying archery, hiking, and maybe even jogging. And I want to explore a few other activities that get me out of the house, introduce me to new people, and give me something to look forward to besides going to work or heading to the club.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with getting dressed up and enjoying a good night out. But I want to experience more. I want to find activities that challenge me, make me laugh, get me moving, and maybe even reveal interests I never knew I had.

I've also been thinking about trying pottery, dance classes, or photography. Something that allows me to be creative without feeling like I have to turn everything into a project or make money from it.

And that's another thing I've realized. Not everything we enjoy needs to become a side hustle. Some things can simply be for our happiness.

And at this stage in my life, I want both.

I don't know which hobbies will stick, but that's part of the fun. I might discover that I'm good at archery, fall in love with hiking, or find out that jogging isn't for me after the first five minutes. This has already been my second week of jogging. But either way, I'm giving myself permission to explore.

So, ladies, I'm curious. What hobbies do you enjoy outside of work, relationships, and everyday responsibilities? And what's one activity you've always wanted to try?

Drop some suggestions because I'm officially accepting ideas for my new hobby era! 😂
